"Confused on what to use to recover files on Seagate Barracuda", I have (had) a Seagate GoFlex Home 3TB NAS that quit working. I snapped open the black plastic case and connected the drive directly to my PC. When I try to query it using Windows explorer, I get lovely error "Drive is not formatted. Do you want to format". (He-- no!) So, from reading all the messages here that means the drive partition table got fried or something else. As I have around 2.4TB of files on that drive, 99% of which backups & copies of important files, I need to recover them. Some of the files are copies of records from the late 1940s thru early 1960s. Here's where the confusion comes in. Should I try to do just a file recovery? I still have 3.7TB space on my WD MyCloud which is connected to my PC via ethernet. For some reason, it gets funky if I try to access it via my Frontier / Netgear 7550 POS router/modem. Or should I try to do a partition recovery?
