Windows recognizes it as a drive but when hooked up internally, bios said bad drive, and did not see it as a functioning drive after bootup. Hooked up with USB cable it sees it again but wants to format. Husband says it has bent readers, I am not taking it apart, I know the risks. The only other thing is I have read a lot of things about possibly using ubuntu or a linux live cd to boot from. Problem with this is I have no idea what I am doing with linux, most sites talk about line code etc, not my strong suit. Is anyone able to give a basic explanation about how to run the possible recovery that way? Or tell me it isn't as scary as it sounds? But the other thing is, how to hook up the drive, does it need to be internal, or can I use the USB. If internal I have to reroute / add some cables so that I can run the CD drive and all hard drives at once. I have about half the drive full, but dont need to recover all of it, only maybe 10-20Gb worth of pictures.
